Family Preservation Projects

Eban Project is committed to preserving the families in Ghana.  This means that whenever possible, EP does everything they can to make sure the family unit stays intact.  Many times families are broken apart because of poverty and most times this happens when a father or husband leaves.  Many mothers do not have the education or training it takes to make a decent living to care for their family.  Families are often torn apart NOT because of a lack of love, but simply a lack of means to provide.  There are a number of ways you can partner with Eban Project to help their efforts in keeping the family unit in tack.

 Change-A-Life Grants:

Eban Project stands firm in believing that it is better to “train a man to fish" so that they can sustain their need, rather than to keep giving them fish.  There are a number of single mothers in Ghana who desperately want to keep their their children with them, but out of desperation they have had to place their children in someone’s care.  Extended family, foster home, orphanages, adoption, even child slavery, all because they simply cannot provide for the needs of their family.  Eban Project offers these dedicated women who want to make a positive change in their lives an opportunity to change their life through the gift of a $500 grant.  This grant provides 6 months of trade schooling, the necessary tools for the trade, and transportation.  In cases where a mother already has the training needed, the grant may be used to help her start her business.  These women may choose from several trades, including but not limited to sewing, cooking, basket weaving, and welding – all profitable trades in Ghana.  After training is completed, the women are able to open their own business and provide a home with food and shelter for their children.  With your gift, you can give one family a future together.

To fund a whole or partial Change-A-Life Grant, please CLICK HERE and not "Change a Life" on the form.  100% of your donation goes directly to its intended purpose.  If you're funding a whole grant and are interested in choosing from a small list of waiting mothers, please contact Anita Gillispie.

Survival Paks:

Survival Paks are another great resource Eban Project uses to help supplement struggling families – families that are just trying to merely survive.  The paks are often given to woman living on the street with children.  The paks include water, snacks, soap, blankets, diapers and formula when needed, and even new clothes or shoes for the family.  You can choose to give a donation directly to this fund and we will buy the necessary supplies to make the Survival Paks, or you can play a more active role and make your own Survival Paks.  In that case a traveling family from the states will be happy to deliver your donation directly to Eban Project, who will then be able to bless a family in need.

Educational Sponsorship:

There are a large number of vulnerable families in Ghana.  One way to partner with Eban Project and make a tangible difference in a specific child’s life is to sponsor their education.  For $35-$40 a month, you can give the gift of education to a child who may never have the opportunity to go to school otherwise.  With this opportunity, you are giving these children the tools to gain knowledge, skills, and an education that could easily change their course of life in the future.

Children in this sponsorship program are still living with their families.  By sponsoring a vulnerable child you may literally project a child from becoming orphaned in the future.  To view children in need of sponsorship please click HERE.

Medical Sponsorship:

Eban Project has provided medical sponsorship to individual needing medical care, but unable to get that medical care on their own.  This care may go to a mother, father, or child in a vulnerable family, or a child already orphaned.  These are often people who have HIV/AIDS or other chronic diseases such as TB or diabetes.  The goal of this project is to make sure the individual attends required doctor visits, receives their medication (and understands how to take it), and has the money needed for transportation.  The amount needed to sponsor each individual varies, but is usually no more than $50 per month.  If you're interested in assisting an individual in their medical needs, please email Anita Gillispie to see if there are any individuals awaiting sponsorship.

Mother/Child Release Fund:

In Ghana, when a mother gives birth in a hospital and doesn't have insurance nor the ability to pay the bill, the mother and child are often held in the hospital until the bill is paid in full.  This is often a matter of $100 or less, but for many families in Ghana $100 may represent several months income.  When funds are available, Eban Project partners with local hospitals to pay the bill for new mothers/babies, so that they may be released from the hospital.  If you would like to add to the Mother/Child Release Fund, please CLICK HERE and note "Mother/Child Release" on the form.  100% of your donation goes directly for its intended purpose.  We are happy to send donors an update when their donation is used to release a mother and baby.

National Insurance Provision:

Ghana has a "National Insurance Scheme" which provides basic insurance to families.  However, many individuals in the village don't know this insurance is available to them, or do not have the literacy or funds needed to sign up for the insurance.  Whenever Eban Project works with vulnerable families we always try to assist the family to sign up for this insurance, which is as little as $5 per individual.  While the insurance doesn't cover many things, it will cover the cost of childbirth and other basic medical needs.
